Form filling

Filling in forms is a very tedious process if done manually. But with Autofill Magic it becomes the easiest task in the world. Autofill Magic offer several ways to fill in forms. We cover all of them in this section.

Filling in a single form

Filling in a single form is easy. There are 3 way to do it:

  1. The toolbar button: Simply click the Autofill Magic toolbar button and any form on the page will be filled out.
  2. The context menu: If you right click anywhere on a page Firefox will display the context menu. Here you can chose the Autofill Magic option and that will fill out any form on the page. A little hint: If you do not see the default Firefox context menu with the Autofill Magic option, then press SHIFT as you right click the mouse. That will force the default menu to appear. enter image description here
  3. Use a keyboard shortcut: Form filling can also be initiated with a keyboard shortcut. The default shortcut is CRTL+ALT+F. The keyboard shortcut can be modified under settings.

Filling forms in multiple tabs

One of the very powerful features of Autofill Magic is the ability to fill in forms in multiple tabs with a single click. You can fill as many forms as you have tabs open - there is no limit.

There are 3 ways to initiate form filling in all open tabs.

  1. The toolbar button: To fill in all forms in all open tabs press CTRL + the middle mouse button on the Autofill Magic button in the toolbar
  2. The toolbar button menu: You can also chose the options Fill forms on all tabs from the Autofill Magic button menu: fill forms in all tabs

  3. Use a keyboard shortcut: The default keyboard shortcut for filling forms in multiple tabs is: CRTL+ALT+T. The keyboard shortcut can be modified under settings.

Fill and submit a form

Instead of just filling in a form, you can also fill in the form and then immediately submit it. This is great for speeding up the workflow and for filling in and submitting login forms.

There are 3 ways to fill in and submit a form:

  1. The toolbar button: To fill in all forms in all open tabs press CTRL + the left mouse button on the Autofill Magic button in the toolbar
  2. The toolbar button menu: You can also chose the options Fill form and submit from the Autofill Magic button menu: enter image description here
  3. Use a keyboard shortcut: The default keyboard shortcut for filling a form and submitting it is: CRTL+ALT+S. The keyboard shortcut can be modified under settings.

Fill in form with details from another profile

If you need to fill in information from another profile but only need it for a single form, you can do it without first switching profiles and then switching back.

This can be useful, e.g. when you just want to login at a site, with a different profile than the currently selected one.

Here is how to do it: Simply click the Autofill Magic button with the middle mouse button, then choose a profile and the information from that profile is immediately filled in but the selected profile won't change. enter image description here

Filling individual form fields

Sometimes you don't want to fill in an entire form, but only need to fill in a single value. This can be the case when you are editing a profile and want to add a few values. Autofill Magic has 3 options for filling single values to form fields.

  1. Filling form fields with the context menu: To fill in a form with the context menu, just right click on the form field you want to fill and select Fill out this field, then find the value you want and click it and the value is inserted.
    Fill out this field
  2. Filling in form fields with *SHIFT+left mouse click:* A faster way to fill in a single form field than using the context menu, is to press *SHIFT+left mouse click* on the field. That will take you straight to the menu with values to fill in. For this to work the option must be enabled under Settings. SHIFT+left mouse click
  3. Filling in form fields with double-click: A third method is to enable values selection on double click. This option must also be enabled under Settings to work.
Filling form fields with double-click Repeating animation: Filling form fields with double-click / SHIFT+left mouse click enter image description here

Copy and paste profile and project values

Sometimes it can be useful to copy a profile or project value to the clipboard to paste in somewhere. One example is Flash forms that cannot be filled in any other way. Some rich text editors are also so complex that normal form filling will not work. When that is the case Autofill Magic offers an option to copy a value to the clipboard, so you can paste it anywhere you like.

To copy a value to the clipboard click the Copy value to clipboard button in the toolbar. copy a value to the clipboard When you click a value it is copied to the clipboard and can be pasted in by pressing CTRL+V og Paste from the context menu. copy a value to the clipboard

Filling in forms trouble shooting

Nothing is filled in when I try to fill in a form?

Check the following:

  • Please make sure that you have filled in your profile and have entered values for your project. Without any profile values or content Autofill Magic have nothing to put in the fields and will leave them blank.
  • If you do have values to fill in and the form is not filled, then the form might not be supported by Autofill Magic. If the form in on a site in the Autofill Magic collection you can send an error report here. If the site is not in the Autofill Magic collection you can train Autofill Magic to fill the form with the Autofill Magic Trainer

Captcha solving

Autofill Magic can solve captchas for you when you fill out forms. That is a great time saver and a really nice way to make your work flow easier.

Autofill Magic cannot solve the captchas on its own but relies on external captcha solving services. So before Autofill Magic can solve any captchas for you, you have to sign up at one the supported captcha solving services.

The supported services are:

We recommend to go with either De-captcher or Death by captcha since they are best at solving most of captchas used by the supported sites.

Enable captcha solving step by step guide:

  1. In the Autofill Magic toolbar click the options button. options button
  2. Navigate to the captcha pane and chose a captcha service.
  3. Enter the license details and make sure to enable captcha solving. captcha settings

Notes and quick links

All sites in the Autofill Magic collection have something that we call a note. The note is a boil down of all the most important information about the site. Notes also have a Quick links menu with links to all key pages on the site. The quick links menu makes it very fast and easy to navigate the site and even more important, you will not need to remember how to navigate more than 100 sites.

The notes are displayed in a side bar in Firefox.

Toggling notes on and off

Notes can be toggled on and off with this button in the toolbar. notes button

Here you can see how it works:

notes gif

Quick links

The first part of the notes are the so called quick links. Each link will take you to a key page on the site. If the icon is in gray scale it, then there is no link to that page.

Below is all the quick links and a list of where the link leads:

enter image description here

  1. The signup page
  2. Edit profile page
  3. Public profile page
  4. Submit article page
  5. Submit video page
  6. Submit bookmark page
  7. RSS feed
  8. The main page for the blog/website
  9. Auto login link

Quick links - Navigating several tabs

You are not limited to navigate the site you are currently visiting. If you press SHIFT when you click a link in the quick menu, then that action will be performed in all open tabs. If you have 10 sites open in different tabs and press SHIFT and click the submit article link, then all the sites in all tabs will navigate to the submit page.

Below is an animation that show how you can navigate in multiple tabs with a single click.

Site features

Right below the quick links we find the Site features section of the note. The site features gives us some key info about the site, which can be very useful. For example, we can see if we can get a link from profile and if it is dofollow or nofollow.

Below is the site features and a list with an explanation to each one. Site features

Projects

A projects is simply all the data that you add to Autofill Magic when you want to submit an article, a video or some other custom content with Autofill Magic. All the data can be saved in project files and can be easily imported and exported to and from Autofill Magic.

It is important to understand that projects are different from profiles. Profiles holds your username, email and password and you only have one profile per site that you sign up for. Projects on the other hand are the content you post at sites and can be reused across several profiles. You can have one profile with 10 projects, e.g. if you have one account at a blog site and have posted 10 articles.

The video below explains all the key features of projects.

Video: Projects explained

Insert links in articles

With Autofill Magic it is possible to separate your links from the actual article text. This is great since it is much easier to modify and edit your links when they are not directly embedded in your article with tedious spintax.

The links have there own tab where you can define the urls, the anchor texts and how to insert the links.

Links tab

Insert links with a marker

If you do not check the Advanced options check box, Autofill Magic will not insert the link in your article automatically. You will need to place a marker in the article text and Autofill Magic will then replace that marker with your link. The markers are $$link1$$, $$link2$$ and $$link3$$.

As with other markers you can copy them to the clipboard by right-clicking the label.

Copy marker to clipboard

When you insert links this way, Autofill Magic will replace the marker with exactly what you enter in the Link field. So if you want the link to display correctly you need to enter complete html anchor tags. You can spin several anchor tags by clicking the Edit spintax icon and entering one link html tag per line.

Clicking the Edit spintax icon

Insert links automatically

Instead of manually placing a marker in the article and writing full html anchor tags you can let Autofill Magic do this for you. This is the easiest and fastest option. It also have the benefit that your article will be clean from anything that is not the text. That will make it easier to edit and maintain.

To insert links automatically you need to check the Advanced options check box. When you do so additional options will be available.

Checking the advanced option

Adding your urls

When you use the advanced options to generate your links, you only need to enter the urls. Autofill Magic will then generate and insert full html anchor tags.

The easiest way to add your urls is to click the Edit spintax icon and then paste in your list of urls.

Clicking the Edit spintax icon

It is important that you enter clean urls with no html markup. Autofill Magic will generate this for you.

Primary and secondary anchors

The anchor texts in your links are important.

Autofill Magic allows you to define a list of primary anchors. These anchor texts should be the keywords that you want to rank for.

You can also define a list of secondary anchor texts to diversify your back link anchors. These anchor texts can be keywords related to the primary keywords. You can also use your site/brand name and the clean url. Secondary anchor texts are added the same way as primary achors.

Animated gif: Inserting primary anchors

You can control the ratio of primary and secondary anchors by setting the percentages.

Animated gif: Adjusting percentages

Placement in article

Placement in article

This setting defines where in article the link is placed. The first four options are:

  • Random: The link will be inserted randomly at the top, between two paragraphs or at the bottom.
  • Random between paragraphs: The link will be inserted randomly between two paragraphs.
  • Top: The link will be inserted at the top above the first paragraph.
  • Bottom: The link will be inserted at the bottom below the last paragraph.

The fifth option Replace word/marker will replace a specific word or marker with the link. If the word or marker appears more than one time in the article, only one instance will be replaced. You can use this to link specific keywords in the article text. This is a great option when you want your link to appear inside the article text and not separated from it.

The last option Do not insert will disable automatic insertion of the link. You can still use the standard markers $$link1$$, $$link2$$ and $$link3$$ to insert your link. With this option you can define the urls and anchors and then use the standard markers to insert the link.

Use the links for other types of content.

Keep in mind that you can use the links that you define here for other content than just articles.

No matter if you use the advanced options or not you can always insert the markers for the links in other fields.

Lets say you want to use link 3 in your video description. Then you could just add the marker like this:

Here is my cool video. You can find more videos like this one at my website. See here: $$link3$$

You could do the same for any other field.

Insert images in articles

With Autofill Magic you can separate images from the actual article text. This is great since it is much easier to modify and edit your images when they are not directly embedded in your article with tedious spintax.

The images have there own tab where you can define the image urls and how to insert the images.

Image tab

Insert images with a marker

If you do not check the Advanced options check box, Autofill Magic will not insert the image in your article automatically. You will need to place a marker in the article text and Autofill Magic will then replace that marker with your image. The markers are $$article_image1$$, $$article_image2$$ and $$article_image3$$.

As with other markers you can copy them to the clipboard by right-clicking the label.

Clicking the Edit spintax icon

It is important that you enter clean urls with no html markup. Autofill Magic will generate this for you.

Note that in order to 'get' the image urls you need to upload the images to an image host on the Internet. There are plenty of places where you can host images for free here are two popular ones: Imgur and tinypic.

We recommend that you use images that do not violate any copyright laws. That will greatly improve the stick rate.

This setting defines where in article the image is placed. The first four options are:

  • Random: The image will be inserted randomly at the top, between two paragraphs or at the bottom.
  • Random between paragraphs: The image will be inserted randomly between two paragraphs.

With this option you can define the urls, alignment and size and then use the standard markers to insert the image.

Alignment

Image alignment

With this option you can define how the image is aligned in the text. The options are:

  • Random: The image will be aligned randomly.
  • Center: The image will be centered.
  • Float left: The image will float to the left of the text.
  • Float right: The image will float to the right of the text.
  • None: No alignment will be set.

Number of images to insert

Number of images to insert

If you have added several images/urls you can chose to insert more than one image with this option. It will work best if you set Placement in article to Random or Random between paragraphs. Otherwise you will get two or more images at the top or bottom. Autofill Magic will insert the image at different positions so they won't clutter up at the same position.

Autofill Magic will always pick different images from the list (if possible) so the same image will not be inserted twice.

Adjust images size (width)

Adjust images size

With this option you can define the size of your images. Many blogs have a quite narrow content area, so limiting the image size is a good idea if you are unsure if you images are too big to look good. You can limit the width of the image in pixels within the range that that you define. The images are not actually converted. The width is set with CSS.

Insert video in articles

With Autofill Magic it is possible to separate your embeded videos from the actual article text. This is great since it is much easier to modify and edit your embeded videos when they are not directly added in your article with tedious spintax.

The videos have there own tab where you can define how your videos are inserted. Don't confuse videos for articles with the general video tab for submission to video sharing sites.

Video tab

As with other values you can copy the marker for the value to the clipboard by right-clicking the label.

Insert Youtube videos

By default Autofill Magic supports embedding Youtube videos in your articles. All you need to insert Youtube videos is a list of URLs to the Youtube videos.

To insert the urls click the spin and save button, then paste in the urls and click Spin and save.

Insert video urls

Autofill Magic will automatically generate the embed code so the video will display in the article. Just make sure that you select the Youtube option.

Insert videos from other video services

If you want to use a different video service than Youtube, then select the option Other service.

Other service option

If you select to use another service than Youtube you will need to add complete embed codes and not just plain urls.

Video placement

This setting defines where in article the video is placed. The first three options are:

  • Random between paragraphs: The video will be inserted randomly between two paragraphs.
  • Top: The video will be inserted at the top above the first paragraph.
  • Bottom: The video will be inserted at the bottom below the last paragraph.

The last option Do not insert will disable automatic insertion of the video. You can still use the standard markers $$article_video1$$, $$article_video2$$ and $$article_video3$$ to insert your video.

Collecting links

As you use Autofill Magic you will be creating a bunch of back-links to your sites. Often you will want a list with all the links that you have created. To make it easy to generate such a list Autofill Magic provides an easy way to collect the links that you create.

How to collect a link

Links are collected by clicking the Collect link button in the Autofill Magic toolbar.

Collect link button

The link you collect is equal to the page/URL that you are visiting. So to collect a link you simply navigate to the page that you want to save. Then you click the button and the URL of that page is then added to your list of collected links.

When the button is clicked the icon will change to a check mark indicating that the link is now stored in the list of collected links.

Collect link button checked

Collect links from all open tabs

Instead of saving one link at a time you can save the links/URLs of all the tabs that you have open in Firefox. This makes it easy and fast to save a bunch of links with a single click. To save the links/URLs of all open tabs, chose the option from the toolbar button drop down menu:

Where do I see the list of collected links?

The links you collect will appear in the Collected links list. The list is found under Profiles and the tab My links. As you collect your links they will appear here in the list. You can also add or remove links manually by editing the list directly.

How to remove a link from the list

There are two ways that you can remove one or more links from the list.

  1. Navigate to the URL that you want to remove and then click the toolbar button so the checkmark disappears. When the checkmark is gone the link is also deleted in the list. In other words: You can add and remove a link in the list just by clicking the toolbar button. Collect link button checked Link in the list. Collect link button Link not in the list.
  2. The second way to remove one or more links/URLs is to navigate to the list in the options window, find the link and delete it manually.

Generating a report with the collected links

If you want a more detailed report that includes more information than just the list of collected links, you can use the site list to generate a more detailed report. You can also easily export the report from the site list to a spreadsheet. See more here

Profile management

One of the most powerful features of Autofill Magic is the ability to keep track of all the accounts you create at the various sites. All this information is stored in a profile. So a profile holds all the usernames, emails, passwords and other typical profile information.

The profile pane

Creating a new profile

Creating a profile is easy. Simply chose the New profile option from the Profile actions menu. Then give your profile a name and click Create profile.

Deleting a profile

To delete a profile chose Delete Profile from the Profile actions menu.

Renaming a profile

To Rename a profile chose Rename profile from the Profile actions menu. Enter a new name and click Rename profile.

Duplicating a profile

The option to duplicate a profile is a more powerful feature than it might seem at first glance. If you have profile settings that you use again and again, then you can save time by making a template profile with all your favorite settings. Now when you need these settings for a new profile you can duplicate your template profile instead of creating a new profile from scratch. By duplicating the template profile instead of creating a brand new profile, all your favorite settings will already be in place.

To duplicate a profile chose Duplicate profile from the Profile actions menu.

Enter a name for the new profile. Before you save and click Duplicate profile there is an important setting to be aware of. You can chose to also copy all the stored user info from the original profile. If you check this setting all stored usernames, emails, passwords, etc. will be copied to the new profile. This is great if you want this info, but you should uncheck this option if you plan a fresh and new campaign with new usernames, emails, passwords, etc.

If you wander why old information from the original profile is filled in when you are filling form, then you most likely forgot to uncheck this option.

When you have entered a new name and decided whether or not to also duplicate the stored user info, you click Duplicate profile and a new profile is created.

Importing and exporting profiles

Profiles can be exported and imported. This is a great feature if you want to share a profile with someone or just want to backup and save a specific profile.

To import or export a profile chose the option from the Profiles actions menu.

Stored profile data

When you fill a form with Autofill Magic, Autofill Magic will remember and store some key values and associate them with the site/domain where they were filled in.

This is mainly important when you spin and randomize the profile values. If you use a random username and the value were not stored, then Autofill Magic would enter a new and random username every time you tried to log in to the site. But since Autofill Magic does store and remember the username the first time it is generated, it will insert the same stored username every time.

Another good reason for storing the profile values is that the info will be consistent when you create an account at a site. If you fill in your name and address during sign up, then you can use these values in your profile biography with the use of universal markers. Here is an example:

My name is $$full_name$$. I am $$age$$ years old and I live in $$city$$.

When you fill in your biography Autofill Magic will replace the markers with the stored profile values. This way your personal address information will match the info in your biography and this ensures that the profile is consistent.

Autofill Magic does not store all the different profile values, only the most essential ones. You can see the values that Autofill Magic stores in the next chapter.

Editing stored profile data or forcing a value

Sometimes you might need to change the values that Autofill Magic has stored. There can be many reasons for this. Maybe the stored username is not available or maybe your password contains characters that are not allowed. When that is the case you can edit the stored values manually to your needs.

To edit the stored values for a site you click the Edit stored user info button in the toolbar.

The number on the button tells you how many values are stored for this site.

When the button is clicked a dialog will open and now you can edit the values to your needs. To delete a single value just delete the entry so the field is blank.

A scenario where you will always need to edit the stored values manually is when sites send a password in an email. In this situation you can copy the password from the email and paste it in the Edit stored user info dialog. Now Autofill Magic knows the password and can log in to the site.

Important: Never edit values without telling Autofill Magic

A common mistake when you start to use Autofill Magic is to tweak and edit values manually when you fill a form. Here is an example:

You fill in a signup form with Autofill Magic and get an error message that the username is not available.

To fix the problem you enter a different username directly in the form field. This is a problem! Autofill Magic does not know that you changed this value and still has the old username stored. When you try to log in with Autofill Magic after signing up, Autofill Magic will fill in the old username and the login will fail.

Here is what you should do instead:

When you realize that the username is not available, then open the Edit stored user info dialog by clicking the button in the toolbar.

Then either enter a new username manually or delete the value entirely, so Autofill Magic can generate a new one. Then save the changes and fill in the form again. Now Autofill Magic is aware of the change and the right username is stored.

In other words: Never change a crucial value manually without telling Autofill Magic about it.

Deleting stored profile data

Instead of editing single values with the Edit stored user info dialog, you can also just delete all stored user info for a specific site. If an account got deleted you can simply delete all the stored data and create a new account.

To delete all stored data for a site chose the Delete all stored info from the toolbar button menu. This will clear all values with a single click.

Importing existing accounts

You can import accounts that you have created manually or with another software to Autofill Magic easily.

Before you import your accounts you need to organize them in a text file in the following format: domain, username, password, email. One account/domain per line. So your text file should look like this:

When you have prepared your text file. You chose the Import account option from the Profile actions menu.

This will pop up a dialog. Before you import the accounts you need to choose if you want to create a new profile for the accounts or if you want to add the accounts to an existing profile.

If you chose to add the accounts to an existing profile, the imported accounts will overwrite existing accounts when the domain is the same.

Autofill Magic will assume that the imported accounts are verified and will set the account status to OK.

How to export a full backup

Sometimes it can be useful to do a full backup for all your profiles and projects. Doing a backup is also needed when you move from one Firefox installation to another. Then you can simply export a backup and then import it on the new installation.

A full back up will save the entire Autofill Magic database and all files (projects) that are saved in the default storage folder. It is important to be aware of that files and folders that are not within the default storage folder will not be backed up. Autofill Magic will give you a notice about this when you do the backup.

Exporting a full backup is easy. Just click the Profiles actions button and the select Export full backup.

export backup

Next chose a destination for your file and click Save. That is it, all your data is now saved.

How to import a full backup

You can import backups of your Autofill Magic data that you have saved in the past. Be aware that all existing data will be overwritten with the data from the backup.

To import a full backup click on the Profiles actions button and then select Import full backup. Then select your backup file and click Open. Now Autofill Magic will import all the data and give you a confirmation when the import is complete.

import backup

Account management

Keeping track of the accounts that you create can be very tedious if you do it manually. It will require a big spreadsheet and a lot of copying and pasting usernames, emails and passwords. But luckily Autofill Magic makes this work much much easier.

All the key features about account management is explained in the video below.

Video: Account status

Markers and randomization

Autofill Magic has a lot of options for randomizing your profile and content to create uniqueness. In this chapter we will cover the different options.

Spintax

Spintax is the most commonly used technique to vary text and create uniqueness. What spintax is and how it works is covered several places on the Internet. Just do a search for "Spintax" and you will get a bunch of results.

Autofill Magic supports the standard curly brackets and pipes spintax with unlimited levels. You can use see a bit more about Spintax in the chapter Video: Spintax and randomization.

Auto spin a list of words

Randomization Markers

Autofill Magic has some special markers that you can use to randomize your profile and content. The markers will output a random value depending on the marker that you use. Here are the markers that are available:

Random word

The random word marker look like this: {%5}. This marker will generate a random word with 5 characters. The number is setting the number of characters in the word so if we change the number to 10 we will get a word with 10 characters instead of 5. Here are some examples of the output:

Marker Example output
{%5} vuvin, loqud, rovay
{%10} foloxopopu, cifuvefoqu, turivupuki

As you can see from the examples that the random words are not real words, but they have a structure with vowels and consonants that makes it look more natural than just a string of random characters. The random word marker is great for generating random usernames and if you have a catchall email address you can use the marker to generate random emails.

Here is an example setup:

Random number

The random number marker look like this: {#5}. This marker will generate a random number with 5 digits from 00000 to 99999. The number in the marker is setting the number of digits, so if we change the number to 10 we will get a number with 10 digits instead of 5. Here are some examples of the output and some actual uses:

Marker Example output
Number with five digits: {#5} 23695
Number with ten digits: {#10} 3695647132
Phonenumber: {#3}-{#3}-{#4} 202-548-0174
Street address: {#3} Parkview Drive 301 Parkview Drive
image url: http: //domain.com/img{#2}.jpg http: //domain.com/img00.jpg, http: //domain.com/img99.jpg

Random string The random string marker look like this: {$5}. This marker will generate a random string with 5 characters. The number in the marker is setting the number of characters, so if we change the number to 10 we will get a string with 10 characters instead of 5. The characters will be a completely random mix of upper and lower case letters and numbers. Here are some examples:

Marker Example output
{$5} Tm8W7, 2prMI
{$10} UP7AniGmNf, A9nSry4KET

The random string is great for generating passwords.

Universal markers

Universal markers are called universal markers because they can be used everywhere. These markers make it possible to use one value somewhere else.

A common use for this is to add profile values to the biography like this:

My name is $$full_name$$. I am $$age$$ years old and I live in $$city$$.

When you use the markers this way they are replaced by the actual value when a form is filled.

The markers are always written starting and ending with two dollar-characters e.g. "$$marker_name$$". All the profile and content values have a corresponding marker, so if you want to reuse a value somewhere else you can use the marker and save some editing.

There are many situations where this can be helpful. Let’s say that you have want to use the same title for your article, video and bookmark. Then you can add the title to your article and then just insert the marker $$article_title$$ in the video and bookmark title field. Now if you need to edit the title you only need to edit the article title. The title for the video and bookmark will also be updated, since there values are similar to the article title.

Getting the marker for a value is really simple. Just right-click on any label and chose Copy marker to clipboard. Now you can paste in the marker where ever you need it.

You can also see the marker (and alternatives) if you hover over the label. In the example below we can see that the marker for the first name is $$first_name$$, but there is also an alternative marker for the full name, $$full_name$$.

All the available markers are listed here:

Find and replace

With Autofill Magic you have the option to do find and replace operations in the article text. This can be useful for all sorts of things. You can insert a marker in your article and then later replace that marker with anything you like. The feature was originally developed to insert links, video and images in the article, but since then we have implemented features that makes it even easier to insert links and media. Yet we have kept this feature in Autofill Magic since it is useful for other things too. In the video below you will see how you can insert images, links and video using this feature, but you could also use it to insert quotes, lists or anything else you can think of.

Video: Find and replace (insert media)

Special markers

At the moment there is only one special marker that are not listed above. The marker looks like this #CLIPBOARD#. When you use the clipboard marker, the marker will be replaced with whatever is in your clipboard.

There are several situations where this can be useful. Here is an example where we want to inter-link the Web 2.0 properties that we create.

There is a simple technique that you can use if you build one property and then link to it from the next one you build.

Here is how. Use the special marker #CLIPBOARD# as the url. So if you have a link in your article you will format it like this:

<a href="#CLIPBOARD#">Your keyword</a>

Now build your first property. When done copy the URL of the posted article. Now this URL is stored in your clipboard.

Then move to the next property and post an article. In the link in your article, the clipboard marker will be replaced with a link to the first property you created.

After the clipboard marker is replaced the URL will look like this:

<a href="http://the-url-of-the-first-article.com">Your keyword</a>

Publish this article and copy the URL. Move one to the next...

The clipboard marker will be replaced and the URL will look like this:

<a href="http://the-url-of-the-second-article.com">Your keyword</a>

You are now creating a string of attached properties.

Simple and efficient.

The Site list

The site list is one of the key features of Autofill Magic. The list displays all the official sites from the Autofill Magic collection. It also displays sites that you have added with the Autofill Magic Trainer add-on. This is where you get an overview of all your accounts. You can sort and filter the list in a bunch of ways and make it suit your work flow. In this chapter we will cover the options.

How do I find the site list?

The site list is located here: http://autofillmagic.com/site-list/

You can bookmark the link above, but you can also just use the link in the Autofill Magic toolbar. It is the very first option.

Filters

This is how the filters look in the site list.

All filters

Filters are a very powerful and useful feature of the site list. The filters allow you to filter the list so it only displays sites with the features that you are looking for. Let's say you only want to sign up at sites that has a dofollow link in the content. Then you can toggle the dofollow filter and all the sites that do not have a dofollow link in the content will be filtered out.

The filters can be combined so you can get e.g. only sites in English that has a dofollow link in the content. The filters are pretty much self-explanatory, so if you play with them a bit you will discover the options really fast. However, there are a few things that are good to know.

How to find a specific site

If you want to find a specific site, then you can use the Search for site field. Just start to enter the domain that you are looking for and the list will update automatically. Search for site

How to reset all filters

If you want to clear all filters you can use the Reset all to default button. When you click this button all filters will be removed and you will have a clean list.

The button is found to the right above all the filters.

Reset all to default button

Presets

This is how the preset options look in the site list.

All presets options

Presets are a very useful feature of the site list. The presets will allow you to hide and show specific columns in the list, so you only see what you need and are not distracted by anything else. With the custom presets you can save any your own presets including filter settings. This makes it possible to bring back all your favorite settings very fast. When you have filtered the list in a way that you know you will need again, then you can save all the settings as a custom preset and get all the settings back any time you like just by choosing the preset.

Predefined presets for columns

There are two kinds of presets. Presets for columns and custom presets that also includes filters. The presets for columns affects the columns that are displayed in the list. To make it fast and easy to filter out unneeded columns we have set some predefined options that you can chose from. The predefined presets are related to different situations in a link building workflow. You can try out the different presets to see what they do.

In the example below we are filtering out any column that are irrelevant when we are posting articles. There is no need to display the links to the sign up page of the edit profile page. We only want to focus on submitting articles.

Submit articles preset

Show/hide individual columns

If you want full control over the columns which are displayed, then you toggle the option to show/hide individual columns by clicking the Chose columns button. Now you can select exactly the columns you want. If you want to save you settings then you can do so by creating a new custom preset. To learn more about custom presets read on below.

Show hide individual columns

Custom presets

With custom presets you have the power to save columns and filter setting so you can load the same settings again with a single click. There is a bunch of ways that custom presets can be useful. Here is one example. If there is a certain set of sites that you want, then you can select those sites in the list and them set the filter for Selected to Yes. Now only the selected sites will be displayed. Now when you save this setting as a custom preset you can bring back this selection of sites any time you like by loading the saved custom preset.

Hos to save, load and delete a custom preset

Saving a custom preset is a simple 3 step process:

  1. First set all the filters you want and select the columns you want to see.
  2. When all is set the way you want it click the Save button. Save custom preset
  3. Then you enter a name for you preset and click save again. Enter name for custom preset

Loading the custom preset again is easy. Simply chose it from the select box and the settings will be loaded immediately.

Loading a custom preset

Deleting a preset is very simple. Just chose the preset and then click the Delete selected button. Confirm that you want to delete the preset and that is it.

Export options

You can export all the information in the site list in CSV format, so it can be imported to a spreadsheet. This is the export options.

Export options

Export to popup or a CSV file

You have two options when you want to export the details in the site list. You can either get the output in a popup window or you can download a CSV file. Both can be useful depending on your needs.

Export delimiter

With the delimiter setting you chose the character that separates the values that you export. This is a standard concept for CSV files and if you need more information you can do a Google search.

The export option was mainly developed to provide an option to generate a full report of a link building campaign. If you work with clients you will be able to export and deliver a full report of you work to your customers. Read more about this in the next chapter and make sure you see the video.

Generate a backlink report (for clients)

One of the great benefits of the export option in the site list is the option to export a full report of with usernames, passwords, emails and the links that you have built. This is a great report that you can deliver directly to clients.

It is really easy to generate a report and you can see how it is done in the video below. The video is a general introduction to the site list, so jump to around 8:35 to see how to export a report.

The site list columns explained

When you first see the site list it can be a bit overwhelming. There are a lot of options and information. That is a good thing, since all this info is relevant and useful. It won't take long before you know all the features and can navigate, filter and use the site list efficiently.

It is also good to know that you can just hover over any icon and then you will get an explanation right away. This is a great way to explore the site list. Here is an example:

Example of help hover text

Main areas of the site list explained

The site list are divided into some areas that we will explain below. Here are the various areas that we will cover.

Areas of the site list 1 - 5

  1. Bulk actions: The bulk actions lets you do the same action to several sites at the same time. Let’s say you want to auto-login to some specific sites. Then you can chose the sites in the list and then use chose the bulk action Auto-login. This will open up the log-in page and log you in for all the selected sites. Each site will open in different tab. There are several bulk actions that you can chose. They are self-explanatory and there is no risk in trying them out so go ahead and play with them.
  2. The Site list header: The header of the site list holds the name of the column. If you click on the name of a column the table will be sorted by that column. You can use this to sort the domains alphabetically or by language. It works for all columns so use the sorting option as it suits you.
  3. Select sites: The very first column holds a check box for each site. You can select or deselect a site by clicking the check box. When one or more sites are selected you can do something with them. E.g. apply a bulk action for all the sites or use the filter for selected sites to only display the selected sites.
  4. Info columns: This columns in this area contains some useful information about the sites. There can be many or few columns displayed depending on the settings for columns. To learn about each column hover over the icon or text to get an explanation.
  5. Quick links: All the icons in this area are links to key pages at the site. These links are the same as the ones you see in the notes when you visit each site. If you click one of these links the page will open in a new tab right away. This allows you to do actions for individual sites and to go straight to the pages that you want. To learn about each link just hover over the icon and an explanation will appear. Icons that are grayed out are inactive since the site does not have that kind of page.

Email verification

When you sign up for accounts at websites they will often ask you to verify you email address. This is most often done by sending you an email with a link that you need to click in order to prove that the email address is yours and that you have received it. Some sites will send your password or a special code in the email instead of a link. When you sign up for many accounts it can be time consuming and tedious to open all these email and verify them manually. That is why Autofill Magic has a quality email verification feature that does all this for you - just by clicking a button. In this chapter we will look into the email verification feature.

Adding and email account

Before you can do any email verification you need to add your email to the list of email accounts that Autofill Magic should check. It is important to notice that it is not enough to simply add your email address to your profile. Fetching and checking emails require a bit more information.

Here is how you add a new email to Autofill Magic:

  1. Open the interface by clicking the options button: options button
  2. Then navigate to the email widow > chose the Manage accounts tab > and click add account. Adding a new email
  3. A popup dialog will open. Add email dialog If you have already entered your email in your profile and the email provider is known to Autofill Magic, then all the fields will be filled automatically. You can also you can also use the preset select menu to choose a preset. If you are using an email provider that is unknown to Autofill Magic, then you will need to find the pop3 details for that provider and enter them manually.

There is one important thing to be aware of when you add email accounts. In the last option in the dialog you can attach the email to a specific profile. If you are using several emails for the same profile (e.g. in Spintax) you will need to add all of them and select the same profile for all of them. You don't have to attach an email account to a specific profile, but when you do you can later chose to only check emails that are attached to the currently selected profile. This is great when you have many emails and profiles. It also helps you to remember which emails you have used for a specific profile.

When the emails is added you can start to check emails on auto pilot.

Checking emails

You can verify emails in two different ways. Either from the email window in the interface or by clicking the toolbar button.

Checking emails from the email window

In the email window there are three options when you want to verify emails (2, 3, & 4). There are also a few other options to be aware of. Let us go through each one.

Check email options in the email window

  1. Here you select the profile that you want to verify emails for.
  2. The Check email for selected profile button will check all email accounts that are attached to the selected profile.
  3. The Check all email button will fetch and verify all accounts in the list regardless of the selected profile.
  4. The Recheck skipped mail button will recheck emails in the skipped list. This is useful when you have added a new custom email filter and want to test if it works.
  5. If the Delete mail on server after receiving option is set the emails will be deleted on from the providers server after they are fetched. If you do not set this setting you will fetch and check the same emails over and over again. So most often you want this option checked.

Checking emails from the toolbar

When you email is all set up you do not need to open up the interface to check mail. Instead you can simply click the verify email button in the tool bar. This button will verify emails for the selected account. As long as the spinner is going the email check is in progress. If you are checking hundreds of mails it can take a little while, but usually it is quite fast.

animated verify emails toolbar button

From the toolbar button drop down menu you have two other options.

Toolbar button email drop down options.

  1. You can open the manual message list (more on that in the next chapter).
  2. You can check all email accounts regardless of the selected profile.

The three email lists

When Autofill Magic is fetching the email from the provider’s server it will filter them into three different list. These are the manual list, the auto-clicked list and the skipped list.

The three email list

Here is what the different lists mean:

  1. The manual list contains emails that require a manual action from you. Some will send the password in an email and then you will need to open the email and get the password. Emails are opened by double clicking them in the list. You can see the action that you need to take in the action column. manual list actions
  2. The auto-clicked list contains all the emails that Autofill Magic has verified automatically. These emails are classic verification emails where you need to click a link in the mail. Autofill Magic clicks the link on auto pilot, so no actions are required here. You can still open the mails if you need any information.
  3. The skipped list contains mails with no detected verification links. These are just welcome mails and newsletters that are irrelevant for email verification. It can happen that an email land in this list by accident. Then you can find it and maybe create a new filter, so it will land in the correct list the next time you sign up for an account at the site. More on creating custom filter in another chapter.

Opening emails

If you need to open and view an email, then just double click it and it will open in a new window.

Deleting emails

To delete one or more emails first select the emails that you want to delete. You can select several emails if you hold down the shift or control key while you click the emails with the mouse. When you have selected the emails that you want to delete click the Remove button and they will be deleted from the list.

You can also delete all the emails in the list by clicking the Remove all button.

Deleting emails

Import a list of email accounts

If you have a list of email accounts then you can import all of them with the Import from file option.

Here is how you import a list of email accounts

First click the Manage accounts tab, then click the Import from file button.

Import email accounts

That will open up the following dialog:

Import emails dialog

In the dialog you must select the file that contains your emails. This should be a text file (.txt) with one email account per line. If the email accounts are from a provider that is known to Autofill Magic, then you only need to specify the email address and the password and then select the preset. Here is an example on how the file would look:

Peter234@hotmail.com:35htS45
larry793@hotmail.com:35htS45
Eric893@hotmail.com:35htS45

If the email provider is unknown to Autofill Magic, then you need to provide a few more details like in the example below:

Peter234@custom.com:35htS45:custom.com:995:ssl-yes
larry793@custom.com:35htS45:custom.com:995:ssl-yes
Eric893@custom.com:35htS45:custom.com:995:ssl-yes

When you have prepared your text file and selected it you click Import accounts and the accounts will appear in the list.

Adding a custom email filter

Autofill Magic is very good at recognizing emails that contain a verification link and will work well for most sites. But sometimes sites will send an email with a link that Autofill Magic can't recognize or the sites will send you an email where a manual action is required. In these situation you can add your own custom filter so the email will be verified and land in the right list. In this chapter we will go through the steps and options available when creating a custom filter.

Adding a new filter for a manual action

In this example we will add a filter for an email where we need to get the password. The goal is to create a filter so the email will land in the manual action list.

As we can see below the email is in the skipped list since it is not recognized by Autofill Magic. The filter that we are about to create will fix that and send the email to the manual action list.

mail in skipped list

The first thing that we need to do is to open the email. Double click the email to open it.

Open email

Notice that in the email window there is a button at bottom called Create new filter. This is the button we use to create a filter for this email, but before we click it we want to find something that is unique about this email so Autofill Magic can recognize it and filter it to the manual list.

There is not a lot of content in this email but we can use this string:

Copy string from email

If you can find something unique in the email, then highlight it and copy it to the clipboard.

When done click the Create new filter button.

Create new filter button

Now a dialog will open with some prefilled settings. Sometimes the prefilled settings will work but you should always check them to see if they make sense.

Mail filter settings

Here is what the different settings mean.

  • Name: This is just a name for your filter so you can recognize it. Default is the domain name o of the sender email address.
  • Sender: The filter will be applied if the sender matches the email entered here.
  • Subject: The filter will be applied if the subject matches the value entered here.
  • Message: The filter will be applied if the message matches the value entered here.
  • Link: If there is a verification link in the email. Then you can match it with the value you enter here (This is not needed for most manual messages, since there is often no link.).
  • Send to list: Chose the list that you want to send the email to after it is received.
  • Manual action: If the mail requires a manual action you can write it here. It is just a quick reminder to yourself on how to handle the email. Often the reminder will be something like: Get password or Get validation code and follow link. Anything that help you move on fast can be used.

Equals, contains and matches regex - what does it mean?

The sender, subject, message and link setting is used to identify the email (among all the other emails).

You can use three more or less strict ways to match a value.

  • Equals is the most strict and will only be a match if the value is exactly like the one entered. E.g. If you set sender to info@betterblog.com it will match this email and nothing else.
  • Contains is less strict and will be a match if the value contains the string that is entered. E.g., if something changes in the email message for each new account, then we can’t match it exactly. But we can use a string that is always present (or contained) in the message. In the example above we copied the string Please use the following password to log in to your account. If we believe that all emails will contain this string we can use the setting contains to catch all email that that contains that string and send them to the desired list.
  • Matches regex: This setting is for the experts if you know regex you can use it to create a filter.

You do not need to use all the options. In fact, it is often enough to match just one or two. Often you can set the sender and then match a unique string in the email message.

Now that the options are clear, let us look at the settings for the example from above.

filter settings example

I this example the settings will catch any email where:

  • The email sender is exactly: info@betterblog.com
  • And the message contains the string Please use the following password to log in to your account

Since this is enough to efficiently identify this email I have deleted the setting for subject. It is not needed and if the there is a change to the subject the filter will still work. Try to make the filters as simple as possible.

Now that we have identified the email we can tell Autofill Magic what to do with it. In this case we are sending it to the manual list with the action reminder Get password

When all settings are done save the filter.

Now to see if the filter works we can click the Recheck skipped mail button. This will run the emails through the filters again and our new filter should be applied.

Recheck skipped emails button

If our filter works as expected it find the email from betterblog.com and move it to the manual list.

Email moved to manual list

Adding a new filter for auto-clicking an email verification link

Before you move on with this part of the chapter you should read the part above. All the settings for identifying the email and sending it to the correct list are the same. But when you want to set up a filter to auto-click a verification link you must set the link value, so Autofill Magic know which link to click.

Let us look at this example:

Email that should be in auto in skipped list

Again we have an email in the skipped list but as soon as we open it we can see that it contains a verification link that must be clicked.

Email with verification link

Before we click the Create new filter button we need to copy a part of the URL that is unique, so we can identify the right link to click. To highlight a part of the URL you might need to press and hold down the ALT key to avoid that the link is followed.

This part seems to be unique for the link:

Unique part of the verification link

So we highlight that and copy it to the clipboard before we click the Create new filter.

Filter settings for auto click

In the dialog we leave everything as it is except that we paste in the part of the URL that we just copied in the Link field. Then we chose to send the email to the auto clicked list.

Now we can save and click the Recheck skipped mail button to confirm that our new filter works.
